A new year fawns...........

I suppose I’d better write something to round the year off:

The band is doing very nicely, thank you. We have our first gig planned for January 28^th at Toft House. We plan to have another couple of rehearsals before then.

The Facebook page will be launched tomorrow. I did have the thought of setting it away at midnight tonight but, on reflection, realised that it would immediately go viral and block everyone’s HYN messages to each other. Then no-one would like us anymore.

We’re looking forward to making some noises in ’17. See you there.

Two more rehearsals to report:
Firstly, Teesside School of Music on October 24.

We were supposed to be in there again for the next one, on November 21, but there was a mix-up. At short notice, Ste found us a slot at Lorne Street Studios in 'boro. We liked it there so much we decided to go there again.

Rehearsal 6

Rehearsal 6 took place at Teesside School of Music on Wednesday October 5.

First of all, I would like to congratulate Hughie for (once again) managing to take photos without alerting the other band members that he was doing so.

The Fostex was playing up again. I'm currently reformatting the HD to see if that is the problem. It is old, mind.

Rehearsal 5

No piccies from this one. Maybe Hughie's phone was broken. Teesside SOM again, on Wednesday September 21st. We're really starting to mess with these tunes, now.
Interestingly, I forgot to bring plectrums (and Ste brought only one). It encouraged me to experiment a bit with the bass lines.

Change of rehearsal venue

The fourth rehearsal on September 7th took place at the Teesside School of Music, due to Ade Rea's being no longer available.

See what I mean? We've already had another rehearsal, and I'm only getting around to telling you about it now!

Never mind. We've definitely decided to make a go of it after this rehearsal on August 11. Six more of Ste's tunes tried out (following the seven tried out at the first bash). We have the next one planned for the 21st. This time we're going to dissect the tunes a bit. I'll keep you posted..........or not, as the case might be.

McCormick Band

On July 5 Hughie messaged me asking if I fancied putting a bit of backing to Ste's tunes. Ste has been very busy doing solo gigs and agreed to give the band sound a try.
On the 26th we had our first tryout. A bit weird. I hadn't seen either of them in the flesh for years, but had been conversing a bit on Facebook and the like.
Anyway, as they say, no worries. We made a lovely noise and agreed to do it again.

It was forty years ago today.........

Well, nearly forty years, anyway. On August 24th 1976 my mate, Hughie, introduced me to a mate of his who, said Hughie, was a brilliant guitarist. I thought I was pretty good myself at the time (I was 16 - give me a break) so was looking forward to the meeting of the minds.
We jammed around a bit (and a recording of some of it survives.
Eventually me, Hughie and Ste (for it was he) put a band together and, as they say, the rest is mystery.

Please note: On 4.4.18 John Mulroy got in touch after many years, providing some new photos of the band (Stroller, that is) and reminding me of a gig I had forgotten about, unfortunately, my third gig, which meant revising the whole list. Uncertain of the exact date, but by the gear we had, plus John remembering that it was a Sunday, it will have been either the 16th, 23rd, or 30th October. More probably the latter, as we must have done some rehearsing beforehand with the new line-up, with this gig as the warm-up for Acklam.
